A mixed case perfect for entertaining this Christmas with something for everyone! A Bordeaux Rouge, and an Argentinian malbec, a French Rose, and an Italian Rose Prosecco, capped off with a delicious Italian white and a top-notch Champagne
We begin with the ‘Pierre Bertrand Champagne Premier Cru NV’ A sensational Champagne rated 98/100 by a Decanter tasting panel. This is an easy drinking medium bodied Champagne from Cumieres, In the Marne Valley. A deep copper/gold colour which is peachy and lush, explosively juicy but balanced by fresh lemony notes. Bottle aged for 6-8 years which is much longer than most NV champagnes on the market lends itself to a complexity and character unmatched by any product in this price range.
We have chosen a brilliant Italian white in this year’s selection. The ‘Falanghina Beneventano – 2020’ from Vesevo. We could’ve played safe with a delicious sauvignon blanc from Esk Valley or a superb French oaked chardonnay from Dom. Gayda, but this wine is too special to miss. With flavours of aromatic jasmine & ripe melon lushness, mint/basil coolness, and a tufa mineral hint. This wine has won IWSC, IWC and Decanter bronze awards in previous years. Truly different to most of what we will be drinking this Christmas and refreshing and challenging in an enjoyable way.
If you should enjoy a rose prosecco then look no further than the ‘Barocco Millesimato DOC – 2020’ this light rose coloured fizz is sure to be enjoyed by all with its Delicate and complex bouquet with fruity notes of peach, green apple and lemon. Floral notes of acacia and rose. Fresh and light on the palate, with balanced acidity and body. Rounded and full-bodied structure.
The 'Dom. D'Aula Cotes De Gascogne IGP Rose - 2020' is made from local grape varieties as well as better known Merlot, has aromas of redcurrant and red berries, lots of berry flavours and a nice citrussy kick. Drink on its own (it's ridiculously easy to enjoy!) or with tapas, salads and smoked meats. Located in the heart of Gascony, the Domaine D'Aula vineyard enjoys the influence of the rain protection of the Pyrenees mountains to the south and the maritime influence of the Atlantic to the west. This provides the ideal climate for producing aromatic, well-balanced wines with character and intensity.
‘Otello Malbec – 2020’ The previous vintage (2019) was one of Christmas 2020s dark horses which quickly became a Craft’d Favourite. This fruity, brambly and supple wine, which is a distinctly Argentinian Malbec will impress with generous lashing of plum, blackberry and hints of vanilla spice. Delicious to enjoy with a meal or on its own.
'Chateau Lepine, Merlot 2016' is the original name of Chateau du Cros, which is owned by the Boyer family. The average age of the vines is over 40 years old and the grapes are grown on the hilly slopes on the right bank of the Garonne river some 25 miles South of Bordeaux. The wine is easy drinking claret, unoaked with lots of fruity flavours and texture, without being overpowering. Wine of dark garnet colour with purple reflections. The aroma and taste are dominated by ripe black currants and plums. The wine has a fine tannin and a pleasant velvety finish.
